100% Unsterblichkeit (2022)
Oscar is in drag. Beneath the vibrant red wig and straw hat lies an anatomically male skeleton—identifiable by the narrower hips and constricted pelvic aperture. The external adornments, however, are femininely coded.
The painting serves as a plea for the recognition of gender variation as a fundamental reality. While society often insists upon a binary norm, research in both biology and gender studies demonstrates that sex and gender result from the interplay of at least six dimensions: chromosomal, gonadal, hormonal, morphological, phenotypic, and psychological. As these dimensions rarely align in perfect congruence, a clear-cut binary assignment is often the statistical exception rather than the rule. Stripped of skin and social pressure, Oscar renders this inherent variance visible.
The title, 100% Immortality, is a skeptical response to the longevity obsessions of technological elites. While Silicon Valley pursues mind-uploads and cryonics in an attempt to bypass mortality, Oscar sits composed in his red bob. He embodies a form of immortality that requires no code—one that emerges through the playful reclamation of our own transience.
