The War Machine

Wars are waged by machines larger than the humans who operate them. Factory, logistics, stock exchange, supply chain, battlefield—an apparatus that reduces individuals to mere functions.

In der Munitionsfabrik (In the Munitions Factory) depicts a woman within this apparatus. Scratched into the background is what she cannot speak aloud. Another work is emerging: a female soldier gazing at a battlefield—alone, in a composition that references Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, transforming his Romantic sovereignty into a reckoning with the logic of dominion.

The war machine is only the most visible arm of a larger apparatus that externalizes destruction and privatizes profit. The machine is abstract. Its impact is not. The series follows it.
